Sharing a Distribution List from your Contact Folder in Outlook

If you need to share a distribution list with someone else (Outlook 2003), there is an easier way than typing the addresses into an email.

  1. The sender exports the Distribution list. Outlook Distribution list export
    1. Open the distribution list.
    2. Go to the Actions menu and choose Forward. An email will open up with the distribution list attached to it. Send the distribution list to the recipient.
  2. The recipient imports the Distribution List. Outllook Distribution List Import
    1. While this isn't listed under any the menus, importing a distribution list is pretty easy. Open the message and resize it so that the Outlook Navigation pane is visible.
    2. Click and drag the attachment over the Contacts button on the Navigation pane. Hold the attachment there until the Contacts button changes colour. Release the attachment.
    3. Check to see if the distribution list has been added to your contact list. If it hasn't, try again, but make sure to give Outlook enough time to activate the Contact button. If you are doing this without resizing the message window first, simply drag the attachment down onto the Outlook button on the taskbar. Hold the attachment there until the main Outlook window comes up. Then continue by dragging the attachment over the Contacts button.
